Part 1: A Man Without a Past

On another world, an amnesiac young man flees for his life, hunted by several monsters. He comes across a dimensional portal and enters. The others follow, but, unlike him, they are stuck in-between. The young man ends up in New York, where he saves a woman’s life with his unnatural luck. Fleeing from the cops, he befriends a survivalist named Eliot. Reading about a kidnapping in the newspaper, the young man and Eliot visit the child’s mother. The stranger ‘reads’ a doll the kidnappers left and leads Eliot and Hester to a strange mill, where the monsters who had followed him now intend to sacrifice the child to create a way back. Using his luck, the stranger saves the child, learning along the way that his luck is dependent on the pureness of the motives. He is assisted in his struggle by a strange little critter, who is actually part of the demon hunters. Before he leaves Hester and Eliot, Eliot christens him Longshot. The young man walks off with the critter, not quite sure whether he can trust him.

Part 2: I’ll Wave to You from the Top

Longshot and Pup jump onto a running train, unaware that they are destroying a film scene. Longshot notices that Pup has changed physically, but the creature disappears when Longshot is distracted by the stuntwoman, Riccochet Rita, who is to bring Longshot to the director, ‘Hitch.’ Impressed by Longshot’s moves, Hitch offers him a job as a stuntman. In spite of his feelings that being an actor is a shameful job, Longshot accepts, remembering Eliot’s advice that he should make money quickly. He quickly befriends Rita, who, like him, is an action junkie. During a flight stunt, he has a vague memory of having been both an actor and a slave.
The night before a very dangerous stunt, Rita kisses him but runs away when she realizes that he probably isn’t human. Moments later, Longshot is attacked by the demons who are stuck between the worlds, due to him, but they are absorbed by the returned Pup, who has grown. Rita returns, demanding to know what Pup is. Longshot wants some answer himself, and Pup lashes out that he hates him and disappears. The next day, during the stunt, Longshot realizes something is off. His luck is missing. As he is hit by the lasers, he recalls a strange ceremony that apparently was responsible for his incredible luck – which only works when his motives are pure. He falls down horribly injured and seemingly dead. Fearing charges of manslaughter, Hitch dumps the body in a river.

Part 3: Just Let Me Die

Frustrated with his drab life, Theo tries to drown himself. However, he lands on the unconscious Longshot, who reanimates and heals rather quickly. Sensing Theo’s deathwish, Longshot tries to convince him that life is worth living. When he learns that Theo feels ripped off by Con Ed, who has recently gotten some experimental diamonds, Longshot decides they will steal the gems back. They sneak onto the grounds of Con Ed, unaware that they are followed by Longshot’s demon hunters, who confront them in the building. They take Longshot prisoner and use the gems to return to their home dimension, leaving Longshot with his questions. Theo, in the meantime, has been kept safe by Pup, who can not decide between seeking Longshot’s friendship and hating him. Angrily, he runs away. Outside, the two men learn they have caused a blackout in Manhattan. Theo wants nothing more to do with Longshot, who decides he’ll give the diamonds to the people who suffered in the blackout.

Part 4: Can’t Give It All Away

The news shows Longshot as the man who caused the blackout and stole Con Ed’s diamonds. Longshot is trying to give away the diamonds to make amends but, apart from a group of kids, nobody wants them. He runs into two heroes, She-Hulk and Spider-Man, who try to capture him. Both fail, once Longshot focuses his luck, but both foster in him the belief that he no longer knows what is real. He meets the kids again, who tell him they have seen a monster. Reading their gun, he recalls leading a rebellion and being mindwiped. He goes to see their monster, a monstrously grown Pup. Longshot refuses to believe in him and is attacked.

Elsewhere, the insane Spineless One, Mojo, is informed about Longshot and the world of real men he now resides in. He has Spiral teleport him to Earth. They reach the home of Longshot’s friend, Ricochet Rita, and threaten her and announce that she will lead them to Longshot.

Part 5: Deadly Lies

Longshot confronts Gog, who blames him for being stuck there and having grown into this monstrosity. Unsure about his own role, Longshot’s heart isn’t in the battle. Help arrives in the form of a ram-headed warrior, whom Longshot recognizes as one of Gog’s pals, even though he appears to share Longshot’s luck power. Longshot leaves to let them fight it out. Outside, he unhappily again tries to remember and has a memory flash of meeting his creator, Arize, who told him that they shouldn’t be slaves and urges him to lead a rebellion. Longshot decides to look up Rita. Rita has, in the meantime, been kidnapped to another dimension by Mojo and Spiral and is being driven mad. Mojo and Spiral’s arrival has been noticed by Dr. Strange, who also leaves for Rita’s apartment to investigate. There, he meets Longshot, who is only interested in helping Rita until Strange reminds him of his duty to clean up his own messes. They return to the Cloisters, where together they destroy Gog. The ram-headed being, Quark, is revealed to be an old friend of Longshot. They swap tales and Strange points out that the two beings who entered this dimension are still unaccounted for. Quark has his fears over their identity and Longshot finally decides to take charge.

Part 6: A Snake Coils

Mojo and Spiral decide to take over Earth, beginning with creating a church meant to raise worship for Mojo. Longshot, Dr. Strange and Quark find the catatonic Ricochet Rita in her home and learn what has happened. Strange promises to try and help Rita but urges Longshot and Quark to stop Mojo, who poses a great danger to the world. They have to destroy Mojo’s tower. The two rebels with their totally opposing outlooks on life have some trouble working together, but finally agree on a plan of attack. Longshot, who finds that he cannot kill Mojo, plans to banish him. They damage the tower and, with the help of a recovered Rita and Dr Strange, open a portal to send Mojo between dimensions. However, Mojo is joined by Spiral, meaning he has a way to return to his home dimension. Therefore, Longshot and Quark decide to follow, to help their people and let them know that they are meant to be free. Rita decides to join them and Strange hopes that together they will be able to save Longshot’s world.
